Our Story
Camp Bellevue began in 1994 with the acquisition of about 18 acres of property on the slopes of Mt. Mojanda, an extinct volcano in the majestic Andes mountains of Ecuador. The nearby town of Tabacundo is about a 1-hour drive north-east of the capital city of Quito. The Bellevue Church of Christ (Bellevue, WA) provided the funds to purchase the property and gave the camp its name. In 1997, construction of the first building began, consisting of a dining hall, a kitchen, classrooms, dormitories, and bathrooms. The camp was officially inaugurated in 1998 and began receiving groups and hosting events. Over the next 10 years, the facilities slowly expanded to include multiple cabins, a shower house, an assembly hall, a medical clinic, an administrator's house, a caretaker's apartment, a playground and sports courts, a fire-pit, and a baptistry. Ulf and Margaret Hallen served as the camp's first administrative couple and oversaw much of the early construction. The current on-site administrators are Rusty and Laura Campbell, who assumed the role in 2013.
In 2023, Camp Bellevue celebrated 25 years of operations as a facility and a ministry. What will the next 25 years bring? We can't wait to find out!
Our Mission
Camp Bellevue has a 3-pronged purpose:
- to serve and bless the local community...
- to strengthen and build up the Churches of Christ in Ecuador...
- to encourage effective partnerships and a passion for missions among churches and Christians in North America...
...all for the glory of God!
